The World’s Youngest Political Prisoner

the only exsisting pic. of the world's youngest political prisoner, the 11 th Panchen Lama of Tibet The world’s youngest political prisoner, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, has been missing for 6 years. He is the current Panchen Lama, which is a title the Tibetans confer on their second most important leader, following the Dalai Lama. At the age of 10 China’s illegitimate government kidnapped him. After initially denying even knowledge of his whereabouts, China admitted that they were hiding the boy afraid that the Tibetans would kill him! Subsequently the Chinese dictatorship installed their own handpicked puppet Panchen Lama, proclaiming him to be the true one. The Panchen Lama has a huge say in determining the next Dalai Lama after the passing of the current one. So the objectives of the repressive regime of China cannot be clearer. By holding the 11th Panchen Lama China hopes to further weaken the Tibetan struggle for freedom or autonomy. The Tibetan Government, operating in exile from our country has no idea of the whereabouts or the conditions under which the Panchen Lama is being held. I cannot even begin to think what he would have had to endure at the hands of a government, which has one of the worst human rights track records in the world. On this our 58th Independence Day, apart from celebrating our freedom let us also spare a thought for this boy and pray for him.

It's good to see you shedding light on a country which many here may tend to ignore, and just how oppresive the chinese govt is.even i had not heard about Panchem Lama until now.china will never be able to justify their claim that they are only 'protecting' him from the tibetans

I hope that the boy is alright, but I doubt that he will ever be free again even if he is still alive. China violates human rights with impunity and has since Chairman Mao Zedong's time.

wat the USA does under the carpet, china does openly, why do u have a problem wit this paul?
guantanamao, etc are examples of human rights violations, how come US speaks of human righs when it is a violater?it refuses to acknowledge the detainees held in cuba as POW's under the geneve convention, is this an example to set for a country that claims moral highground?

atleast china doesnt claim moral highground, claim that they r fighting for freedom etc, they openly say they want to establish a greater china, wheras USA establishes puppet nations in the name of terrorism. wat does SADDAM have to do wit osama? bush shud say i am fighting for USA's energy secirity rather than the terrorism crap.

i am not justifing the chinese actions, they are unpardonable, but its even worse that a known violater (USA) claims moral highground and wants china to reform.

its sad what china is doin in tibet, its even sadder it isnt as well known as Guantanamao and there arent organisations like OXFAM, on ANMESTY INTERNATIONAL shedding light on the tibetan cause.

Happy Independence day!

Heard a story about a chinese general comming to the Dalai Lama, saying: "We want to liberate you." The Dalai Lama said: "You are not able to do that. I can only do it for myself."
Let´s hope that the young Panchem Lama finds the same freedom in spirit and will therefor not be indoctrinated by his kidnappers.
