Ganja Dreamers Everywhere (But Madras Will Survive)

It’s so cool to pronounce Tamil as Taaamil. It’s so not cool if you don’t know (or don’t care) what GPRS is. You are a stud if you giggle and ‘make out’ with ‘chicks’ (whatever that means…lol) in coffee houses or wherever else. You are a nerd if you think stepping into a disco is downright boring. You take life seriously. What does that mean yaar? Downright hollow. That’s what most kids of my brilliant generation are in Madras. Every generation had a few ganja dreamers. But this one is bursting at the seams with ganja dreamers. What do I mean by ganja dreamers? Well people in search of nothing in particular, except maybe well you guessed it nothing!!!Escapists, wannabes and really describing them is beyond me. This city is starting to loose her soul. But no she has too much of it. Madras lives in her beaches and in her love of cricket. Madras is Madras because of all those Carnatic Music fanatics. Madras has entire generations of the true Madrasi souls. The Ganja dreamers may be causing quite a tremor. But Madras is a survivor.

its a temporary phase, five to six years ago in a survey it was found that the 18-25 year olds were bothered about the ganja culture but in the same suevery conducted recently the same group were more concerned about their career and not the ganja culture. the ganja culture ll happen its a by product of increasing consupmtion. any city has to develop and change, if it is not dynamic it ll die, same for madras,, this ganja culture is a part of that change, and unlimately itll be integrated into the city's exisiting culture

Hallo Ramana,
read it just now and to be frank it is something a little beyond me and my generation. What I can say is a. the English is good b. there is an element of frankness and directness devoid of all niceties.
What more can I say. Perhaps I can say I am given a chance to understand not only generationext but also the one next to that.

Fortunately none of my friends are Ganja dreamers.A few aquaintances definitely.Wannabes are a part of every society so we might as well laugh at them from a distance.this whole ganja culture is a sign of insecurity among the youth.if ur not 'in' you're definitely 'out'.
This reminds me of article in Metro Plus recently about night clubs closing down after 11.Perhaps Madras is living upto its character.

yeah defintely true, the spirit and the comfort of madras lives on.. the ganja culture as i see it is rather a demographic category that will always have its place in society. i mean when these wannabes who vouch by beach house parties and confess that money is the mantra of life, without having made even the one penny of the thousands that they unscruplously shell out every saturday night, often jus to prove a point..will have their faithful replacements, once they are done with college and find themselves at the cross roads of life.. its jus a question of how much they lose during this 'trance' and at what cost...the tradition seems to live on... every year...
